Low-Cost Treatments - models for Students' Clinical Practise
As part of the training IPCH requires models for their students to practice on. This is an opportunity for volunteers to receive a Colonic Hydrotherapy (Colonic Irrigation) treatment from a trained nurse or CAM practitioner who is in the process of adding Colonics to their set of therapeutic skills.
The price for the treatment is £40.
There is no difference between a treatment done by a student and a qualified practitioner other than that the student will be coached as they are administering the treatment. This is an opportunity to receive a professional Colonic Hydrotherapy treatment at a reduced cost at the same time as learning more about the body, food, digestion and the connection between the gut and health.
Colonic Hydrotherapy is a cleansing experience that enhances wellbeing. It can be done as part of an elimination diet or a juice fast. Discussion on the topic of detoxing, fasting, and cleansing with herbs are included in the trainee’s learning and will be shared as part of the session.
For answers to the frequently asked questions on Colonics see the FAQ here.
The course is suitable for:
a) Those already trained in conventional medicine (e.g. doctors, nurses, etc.)
b) Those who are graduates of a recognised body-based complementary healthcare / beauty therapy course which must include in-depth anatomy and physiology.
c) Applicants without prior experience in healthcare can still enrol, but will have to complete a course in Anatomy and Physiology prior to starting.
Additional required studies for (c) may include an introductory course in NATUROPATHIC NUTRITION and/or training in a body-based therapy (e.g. Massage, Reflexology, Yoga, Osteopathy, Bowen therapy etc.)
Copies of certified evidence of A&P to Level 3 minimum, Emergency First Aid at Work and suitable insurance (on which we will advise) must be sought before the start of the course.
Applicants must also be familiar with Colonic Hydrotherapy, and have received a treatment.
Course content includes:
The course is divided into three distinct sections:
The Practical Training Course
This consists of six days of intensive training (the Core Training) taught on set course dates (see Course Dates).
This is followed by one Clinical Practise training day which is one-to-one with the Course Principal, and is made up of 5 additional supervised clinical practices on external clients. The date is agreed with the student after completion of the Core Training.
As part of the course the student will have the opportunity to give a minimum of FIFTEEN supervised colonic hydrotherapy treatments and experience at least three treatments themselves.
The number of students on the Core Training is deliberately kept to a maximum of four to allow for personal attention while covering the extensive syllabus. See Course Content for more details.
Four Saturday Zoom Modules follow the Core Training
These remote video modules each comprise typically 2 lectures, 2 quizzes, and feedback/Q&A opportunities, and are 10am - 3pm including breaks. They are on fixed dates (see here) and are not recorded or repeated. Full participation is essential, so must be factored in to the student's diary when booking the course.
Clinical Practice Development Period
On completion of the Practical Training, the student is supported through completing their Case Study practises and setting up or identifying (oursourcing) their own clinical space. These further treatments are on the student's own volunteers (a minimum of 2 clients for 2 treatments each) and must be supervised (remote supervision is available at no extra cost). During this time the student completes their home study, and any additional training required to access the ARCH external examination leading to the full qualification and IPCH Diploma.
Case Study Requirements (pre-exam homework)
Before applying for their final Diploma Exam, students are required to comprehensively write up their three case studies. These cases comprise one which was undertaken in during their Clinical Training and the two on their own volunteers mentioned above. In addition the student is required to home-study the material presented during the training and the Zoom sessions in preparation for the examination.
On submission of the case studies an additional tutorial and supervision day is made available to the student in order to prepare for their exam This is the final opportunity for the student to gain confidence and support prior to their Diploma completion examination.
Examination is independent from the training and is set and marked by our accrediting organisation (The Association of Registered Colon Hydrotherapists, ARCH). See Examination for more details.
Students can apply to take their final exam once they have completed their course, supervised practices and case studies.
The final Examination is with the Association and Register of Colon Hydrotherapists (ARCH). It is booked and paid for separately from the course.
Examination consists of a two hours written theory paper and an independently assessed colonic treatment. The exam is set to demonstrate the skills, knowledge and understanding that are set out by The National Occupational Sandards.
A "Diploma in Naturopathic Colon Hydrotherapy" is awarded by IPCH on successful completion of the examination.
The Diploma is validated by the Association and Register of Colon Hydrotherapists (ARCH) and is fully recognised by all major Colonic organisations.
It gives access to membership of the Complementary and Natural Health Care Council (CNHC), the most respected regulator of complementary therapies, and enables the student to advertise their services within the parameters set out by CNHC.
